In a shocking turn of events, former U.S. President Donald Trump was injured during an assassination attempt at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred as Trump addressed supporters, when a gunman opened fire from a rooftop approximately 200 to 300 yards away.
Trump was struck in the right ear by a bullet, which he described in a post on his social platform, Truth Social. “I heard a whizzing sound and felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening,” he stated, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was neutralized by a U.S. Secret Service counter-sniper team.
An AR-15 was recovered at the scene, and Crooks was reportedly killed in the exchange. Tragically, one audience member also lost their life, and another is in serious condition.
Following the attack, Trump was escorted offstage with visible injuries, prompting concerns for his health. However, a campaign statement later confirmed that he is “fine” and undergoing medical checks. Donald Trump Jr. assured the public that his father is in “good spirits.”
World leaders, including President Joe Biden, condemned the violence, with Biden expressing gratitude for Trump’s safety and emphasizing the need for unity in America.
