37-year-old Tyrek Burton was fatally shot just hours after exchanging vows with his new bride, Kiara Holloway, 33.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2024, outside the Barber Park Events Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, where the couple had celebrated their union earlier that day.
According to reports, Burton was shot 15 times in what authorities now believe may have been a case of road rage gone tragically wrong.
The Greensboro Police Department responded to calls of an “aggravated assault” at approximately 8:49 p.m., only to find Burton with life-threatening injuries. Despite immediate medical intervention, he succumbed to his wounds later that night.
Burton’s cousin, Keisha Satterfield, shared that the newlywed was a beloved father of four daughters, known for his generosity and infectious smile.
“On one of the happiest days of his life, it was tragically cut short due to road rage that ended in gun violence,” Satterfield stated in a heartfelt social media post.
The exact motive behind the gruesome shooting remains unclear, but family members report that the incident stemmed from a traffic altercation.
Eyewitnesses claim that Burton was confronted by an unknown assailant who accused him of cutting him off at a nearby stop sign.
Burton’s family is left to mourn a life cut short on what should have been a joyous occasion.
His mother, Carolyn, shared the painful irony of the situation: “He waited 13 years to marry her, and he didn’t even get to take her home.”
