Kenyans Remember LSK President Faith Odhiambo’s Call for Release of Protesters Amid Allegations of Abduction and Abuse.

These follows after the resignation of the Inspector General of the Kenya Police Japheth Koome on 13th July 2024 due to the ongoing national pressure from the youths.

In a bold stance against what she terms unconstitutional practices by authorities, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo had earlier demanded the immediate release of individuals detained during recent anti-finance bill protests.

Speaking out strongly against alleged abuses, Odhiambo highlighted the plight of those affected, stating, “They are unable to talk, they are scared because of whatever they went through.”

During an interview with Citizen TV, Faith condemned the reported arrests and abductions of protesters, emphasizing that such actions violate constitutional rights.

She went further to criticize the Inspector General of Police, urging for his resignation over what she described as unlawful arrests and detentions.

“I have told the Inspector General of the police to ensure that any person who may be held must be released,” Faith stated firmly, reflecting widespread concerns over the handling of dissent by law enforcement.

The LSK President expressed dismay over the treatment of detained individuals, particularly the youth, some allegedly subjected to harrowing conditions while in custody.

“There were abductions of the protestors who were treated in very scary ways,” she remarked, adding that some were found with signs of physical abuse upon release.

“The reason why the abducted couldn’t talk is because they went through a lot while abducted in unknown places,” Odhiambo explained, pointing out the severe implications of such actions reminiscent of past authoritarian regimes.

Despite the challenges faced, Odhiambo’s stance has garnered praise from Kenyans, who commend her commitment to upholding constitutional rights amid growing tensions between protesters and authorities.

She vowed that the Law Society of Kenya would continue to advocate against any unconstitutional practices by law enforcement agencies.

As the situation unfolds, stakeholders are closely monitoring developments, with calls for transparency and adherence to legal standards gaining momentum.

Faith Odhiambo remains resolute in her efforts to ensure justice and accountability for all affected parties.
