Former Roots Party Deputy Presidential Candidate Declines Presidential Appointment Due to Maternity Leave

In a surprising turn of events, Justina Wamae, former deputy presidential candidate for the Roots party, has declined an appointment to the prestigious Presidential Taskforce on Addressing Human Resources for Health.

The appointment, issued by President William Samoei Ruto, was detailed in Gazette Notice No. 8437 under Executive Order No. 5 of 2024, dated July 5th, 2024.

In a statement posted on her Facebook page, Wamae expressed gratitude to President Ruto for recognizing her abilities and nominating her to the taskforce.

However, citing her current maternity leave, she explained her decision to decline the offer, stating that accepting the position at this time would compromise her ability to effectively fulfill its responsibilities.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for recognizing my strength, capacity, ability, and subsequently appointing me,” Wamae wrote. “However, after careful consideration, I have decided to decline your offer given that I’m currently on maternity leave and this development would affect my ability to work effectively at this time,” Justina Wamae Politely Responded.

The announcement sparked various reactions across social media platforms, with supporters and commentators weighing in on the decision.

Known for her outspoken nature and advocacy on health-related issues, Wamae’s decision reflects her commitment to balancing her professional duties with personal responsibilities.

President Ruto’s administration has not publicly responded to Wamae’s decision.

The Presidential Taskforce on Addressing Human Resources for Health was established to tackle critical challenges in the health sector, including workforce shortages and training needs.

Wamae, who ran alongside Wajakhoya during the recent presidential elections, remains an influential figure within political circles and continues to advocate for women’s rights and healthcare reform.

Her decision underscores ongoing debates about work-life balance and the challenges faced by women in leadership roles.

As the nation watches developments unfold, Wamae’s principled stance has highlighted broader discussions on the intersection of professional commitments and personal life, particularly in high-profile government appointments.
