Kenya Police in Kisumu County arrested Ronald Liwind, alias Ronny, who is the primary suspect in the shocking murder of General Service Unit (GSU) officer Calvince Omondi.
The arrest comes just days after the brutal stabbing incident that occurred in the Manyatta slums of Kisumu Central sub-county on Sunday night.
Ronald Liwind was arrested at his rural home in Asembo, Siaya County, where he had fled following the attack.
A multi-agency team is actively searching for David Nyeuse, Liwind’s alleged accomplice who remains at large.
The slain officer, Calvince Omondi, was based in West Pokot and had returned home while off duty.
Another individual who was accompanying Omondi survived the attack but sustained stab wounds.
Kisumu County Police Commander Alphonse Kimanthi stated, “We have arrested the main suspect, Ronald Liwind, who is believed to be directly involved in the murder of the GSU officer. We are working tirelessly to bring his accomplice to justice.”
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities are urging anyone with information about David Nyeuse’s whereabouts to come forward.
The brutal murder has sent shockwaves through the local community. A local elder expressed the sentiment shared by many, saying, “Omondi was a dedicated officer, and his death is a great loss to the community.”
Liwind is currently detained at Kondele Police Station and is expected to face murder charges.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are determined to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
