The terror incident happened near Lake Chad, where armed terrorists killed 40 farmers in Nigeria’s Borno State. The news have installed fear among the local communities due to the ongoing security crisis in the region.

Reports says that the attack took place in Dumba, where terrorists gathered and executed farmers who had ventured beyond military-designated safe zones. Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and State Information Commissioner Usman Tar confirmed that Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters are the suspected perpetrators.

“We’re currently searching for survivors who fled during the attack, hoping to reunite them with their families,” Commissioner Tar explained. The state government has ordered military forces to hunt down the terrorists responsible for this brutal attack.

The tragedy underscores the dangers faced by local farmers, who sometimes risk their lives by working in areas known to be militant strongholds. These regions, scattered with landmines, pose extreme risks to civilians despite their agricultural potential.

Governor Zulum has made an urgent plea to residents to stay within military-cleared safe zones while calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Lake Chad region, which touches four countries – Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, and Chad – has become a notorious base for terrorist operations. Since Boko Haram began its campaign against Western education in 2009, the violence has claimed 35,000 lives and forced more than two million people from their homes, according to UN reports.

This is humanitarian crisis in northeastern Nigeria, where local communities continue to face the threat of terrorism while struggling to maintain their livelihoods.
